二、課程目的與簡介：
這門課的宗旨在於定位人類學在西方知識發展中的位置，特別是相對於其他社會科學（社會學、經濟學、政治學、歷史學、地理學等），在今日人文知識領域分工中所扮演的角色。提供社會科學的一般概念，鼓勵同學涉獵古典著作，並提出人類學與其他學科交流與整合的可能。
課程分為三個主題：
（1）首先透過知識史回顧，瞭解社會科學崛起的背景，以及其特定的歷史性格。特別是啟蒙時代的脈絡，脫離與對抗宗教與政治權威所帶給社會科學的影響，並討論這份遺產帶來的後果。
（2）透過各個學科的形成，包括其制度脈絡及知識假設，來瞭解我們今天社會科學知識的狀況。為何社會知識是如此分工?它們與殖民主義與冷戰結構的關係。
（3）人類學有知識的危機嗎？為什麼？來自後現代主義的挑戰是真的嗎？或者什麼是「啟蒙」？最後再問在全球化的脈絡下，人類學知識必須要有的轉化。
三、課程要求與評量方式
基本上，三個小時的課程中，一個半小時是以講授為主，另一個半小時則是修課的學生就講課的內容和閱讀的資料進一步討論。修課學生除了必須閱讀指定讀物外，上課前要交一篇上週指定讀物的摘要(500字以上)。期末要交一篇報告。
評分方式：報告40%，摘要與上課討論60%。
期末報告主題請於第十一週，寫好論文大綱與我確認，必須經過我們商討同意後，才可以動筆。
